Earth Day Birthday 2009 hosted by BASEC is a family, fun event celebrating the worldwide recognition of Earth Day, Courtesy of the Corporation of Hamilton
Chewstick’s Gavin Smith will MC the party while on-stage entertainment includes Bermuda School of Music, the BHS School Band, Mohawk Radio Band and others.
Eco- exhibitors on display will be Solar Bermuda, Keep Bermuda Beautiful, The Vegetarian Society of Bermuda, Wadson’s Farm, Bermuda National Trust, and many others. Don’t miss your chance to test drive an electric scooter or battery-assisted pedal bike.
The first garden in Bermuda was established (Sir George Somers grew herbs, lettuce and radish). We are encouraging children, schools and others to continue the tradition with school gardens and the square foot gardens. By joining BASEC, schools and groups can be advised on how best to start these up!
- Palmetto and Cedar played an important part in the survival of the shipwrecked crew and passengers, today, we are encouraging schools to ensure the survival of the cedars and palmettos. Plants will also be available on Earth Day.
- Sustainability - the first group had to be self sufficient in Bermuda were the settlers and BASEC encourages Eco Clubs and individuals to look at sustainablility today and preserving the island for another 400 years, and more.
