- 400 Postcards for Bermuda’s 400th - INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ART EXHIBITION
- In recognition of Bermuda’s 400th anniversary The St. George’s Foundation, Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art and the Muscarelle Museum of Art (Williamsburg, VA) will host a 2009 student art showcase. The project is a continuation of TSGF’s & Masterworks summer collaboration ‘Bringing History to Life with Art.” Like the summer programme the student art exchange will examine the correlation between history and art with particular focus on the Bermuda-Virginia connection. Bermuda’s ties with Virginia began with the wreck of the Sea Venture and in 2007 Virginia celebrated its 400th anniversary. Bermuda played a significant role in their observances and we would like to include Virginia in our celebrations. Our aim is to encourage students to
learn more about the history of the two former Virginia Company Colonies.

Commemorative Plaques are to be installed at the Bermuda Post Office on Saturday, April 4th 2009. She said, “It is with great pleasure that we begin the installation of these wonderful commemorative plaques. There will be almost 900 plaques installed to spell out ‘400’ all of which will be available for individuals to purchase and take home at the end of the display in January 2010.” She continued, “These will make marvelous collectors’ items and something to show your grandchildren as you tell them all about the wonderful celebrations held over the year of 2009!”
Mrs. Ming further commented, “The project was created by SHY Architecture to provide a stimulating experience for their summer student, Bianca Clay, who is now a Rotary Exchange student.”
The plaques themselves are made from a very sturdy, long lasting laminated brushed aluminum polymetal. Mrs. Ming stated, “We are excited about how this will add another dimension to our celebrations and are very grateful to the Post Office for allowing such a display. It will certainly complement the existing ‘Stamp’ display already installed at the Post Office and demonstrates their commitment to ensure that all are well aware of this our 400th Anniversary, both locals and visitors alike.

- YOUTH IN DEBATE by Bermuda 2009 YOUTH FORCE
- The Youth Debate is the second of seven events being planned by the Bermuda 2009 YOUTH FORCE.Several primary school students have been preparing for the Youth in Debate plank for months. They are working with Dynamic Debaters and Learners and have confirmed the topic, “This house believes that the sailors who experienced Bermuda before 1609 were in the wrong profession. “ The students have used the book Miracle as their source. They have investigated the stories surrounding sailors who came to Bermuda before 1609 and how they reacted to our island. It is said that many visitors (sailors) were terrified of Bermuda as they heard it was inhabited by witches and devils. It is said that many grown men ran from birds and vowed never to return. Through this topic, the students have become more familiar with the debate format and plan to awe their audiences as they take to the stage on Thursday, April 16 at 6.00 p.m. and Friday, April 17 at 9:30 a.m. at Prospect Primary School. All are welcome. The students will receive certificates and the winners will receive gift certificates and trophies. There will be a cup presented to the primary school that has the most students in attendance.
